March
14th, 2003, ACT (Adaptation Center for Teenagers) inauguration
The inauguration of the ACT center was attended by Perm vice mayor
Nally Mindubayeva, IREX representatives Tatyana Boborovistkaya and Gennady Podolny,
and representatives from the project's major corporate sponsors.
Nally Mindubayeva: "Dear guests and children, I think
each of you is very happy to be here today, because one more another good establishment
is opening in our city
.we'll need to study this center's program, so that
these methods for adaptation can also be applied in other institutions in our
city. We understand what a large contribution these projects give to the education
of children and teenagers in our city. I'd like to thank everyone, who took
part in this project, supports it and helps give a new start in life to children
who for various reasons are in a socially dangerous position. I hope this center's
attendees will find their way to a better life."

October
18th, 2002: 2nd Anniversary of Shelter "A Step Towards Home"
The
shelter's second anniversary was attended by Perm vice Mayor Nally Minubayeva
and representatives from the project's major corporate sponsors, such as Pratt
& Whitney, Permtex, Nestle and others. The local Nestle factory lent us a
projector and large screen, on which we showed a presentation detailing the progress
that's been made this year. The children also did a skit enacting the highlights
of the year from their point of view. The Perm vice Mayor emphasized that this
shelter is an example that governmental orphanages and children's homes should
follow. Representatives of cooperate sponsors pledged to continue supporting this
project.

October
19th, 2001 Anniversary of Shelter "A Step Towards Home"
The
anniversary of "A Step Towards Home" was attended by Perm Mayor Arkady
Kamenev. Arkady Kamenev:
"Unfortunately, there are
many, many children like this in Russia and Perm. There are just as many homeless
children now as after WW2.
It's clear that there's been a complete
miracle in this shelter. I was greatly impressed by the children's behavior, their
openness and desire to talk and communicate. Many of those here today have probably
been to orphanages, reception centers for underage children, and juvenile detentions.
You've seen that children there don't make contact easily, and dialogue with them
can be very difficult. It's so much different here, no doubt because you speak
the children's language. We're very appreciative of what you do. Thank you."

Ambassador James Collins visits
US Ambassador
James Collins visited on the 11th of March 2001.
James
Collins: "With this visit I wanted to support something positive Americans
are doing here. I believe what they do enriches US-Russian relations; they do
something very beneficial for us all, because these children need adults to care
for them, and what we as adults do for this type of children is very important
for mankind. And I am very proud that Americans are doing it, and not only Americans,
but that the people of Perm support it as well."

October
19th, 2000 Shelter "A Step Towards Home" Is Opened
The inauguration of "A Step Towards Home"
was attended by US consul James Bigus and Perm Vice Mayor Tatyana Margolina.
James
Bigus: "Ladies & Gentlemen, I'm very glad that today I can attend the
opening of a shelter for homeless children, that became possible thanks to the
work of Love's Bridge & the city administration. This has been achieved through
the good will of both Russians and Americans. Today, at the dawn of a new millennium,
Russian-American cooperation has become apparent in many spheres. I've personally
been happy to witness the successes that have been achieved in the city of Perm
along these lines."
Tatyana Margolina: "It's important
to note that the experience gained by this non-profit organization enabled the
local municipality to establish something similar. In October we will also open
a night shelter, but I emphasize that this non-profit organization pioneered the
way, they showed us that this needs to be taken care of and that it can be done,
and they gained the trust of Perm's young homeless children…One additional important
factor is that these volunteers operate quite differently from most local non-profit
organizations. They come up with new ideas without waiting for help from the local
government, showing everyone how much they love this work."
